Du Bois discusses the need to create a definition of the word "Negro" to be used in the "Encyclopedia of the Negro." He mentions that the word has different meanings in different countries, yet is often more specific in regards to stereotypical racial constructs than the definitions are for the terms "caucasian" and "mongolian."
