Newth, Frank F. (Frank Forrest), 1895-1979
Diary kept by Frank F. Newth while in France, which provides more details about his work and experiences serving in the Army. Newth discusses working at Camp Devens, Fort Jay, and Camp Merritt before travelling to Winchester, England. Once he was in France he moved between a few different cities working for the Finance Department of the Quartermaster Corps. While in Amiens he experienced air raids which were part of the great German Offensive. In Amiens, Newth saw refugees from towns near the front escaping to the city by the thousands and Red Cross Ambulances loaded with wounded British soldiers. Newth was in Amiens for eight days after the great push started but they eventually had to move because the bombing was so intense.
