He arrived in Des Moines that night and met up with a friend of his who is trying to decided between two men to marry. Afterwards he met up with Merle Way and "Judge" Anderson and got some of Rhea's letter's in Anderson's office. He has some big news to tell her that he's waiting to deliver in person.
