Katherine's letter to Gracie begins by talking about how tired she is from doing housework and climbing up and down the stairs multiple times. She goes into detail about the furniture and other items in Junie's room. Junie has a new sandbox which she and Susie love to play in but the sand makes an eyesore in the yard. Katherine is anxious to know whether or not Dad Irey won the primaries. She and Junie had an unsatisfactory shopping trip to Hackensack where she didn't find what she was looking for. She is eager for a vacation, husband Kennie doesn't want to go before July because of work. Katherine goes into details about housecleaning; mopping, cleaning rugs, doing laundry, ironing. She tells a story about Junie repeatedly wandering away from the house and to control her, Katherine tied her up at the back door which Junie was very upset about, calling for her father to untie her. The child talks a lot and has a good memory of the family and her visits with them. She ends the letter with questions about various family members.
