McCormack, Mark H.
McCormack asks Haji Fukuhara and Shigeki Uji to recall the attached fax. He indicates they have got to discuss this when he is in Tokyo since he has to get back with an intelligent idea to the Royal & A (Royal and Ancient Golf Club of St. Andrews). Attached is an April 14, 1992 fax from McCormack to Fukuhara and Uji informing them that he had a lengthy meeting with the R & A officials at the Masters golf tournament about British Open Qualifying and they have asked him for a recommendation as to how they might do an "Asian Qualifier" which could take place in Japan and which would not end up with a lot more eligible Asian/Japanese players in the British Open than are presently eligible. He briefly explains what they are currently doing and what would happen if they were to have an Asian Qualifier. He identifies the problems with this and explains that they have asked him to develop a plan that might solve these problems. He notes that they will have to get the approval of the Asian Golf Association, the Japanese Golf Association, and presumably the Japanese PGA and mentions that they also will want to have some specific information as to the degree that a Mizuno would be advertised as a "sponsor" of the Qualifying Round, which they are also nervous about. McCormack asks Fukuhara and Uji to come up with some kind of formula that would satisfy the problems discussed in this fax so they can discuss this when he is in Japan in May.
