Taylor, Brainerd, 1877-1955
Brent is a poor brother for writing so little to Molly, since he only has some time here and there to write out a few lines at midnight. Although they keep asking him what he needs, he does not need much of anything and is content. The house he is staying in with the other officers is now just himself and Major Gray and it was once inhabited by a French family. From that family, the father, a druggist, is wounded in a hospital, the wife staying in a far away town, and the wife's brother was killed in battle the second day after he left home. There are many such empty homes now inhabited by American soldiers, and a little old French woman comes in every day to cook for them.
