Taylor, Brainerd, 1877-1955
Brent wishes he could be with his family for their summer vacation and feels sometimes that he is on the edge of being a young man and soon it will be over and he will be old and tired. He writes about the chaplain from Columbia University who established the first Y.M.C.A. and about a trip he made with George when he was 18 to visit Billy McKay. He writes about French Daylight Savings Time and his longing for homemade griddle cakes on 4th of July. He writes about a cafe he regularly visits and how he can sweet talk the women who work there to get free sugar or butter. James spoke of Captain Connerais having been severely wounded and Brent saw him just last Friday, when he had been in the hospital with half his right arm shot off. Sunday he gave a sermon meant to motivate the troops to work harder.
