Clarke School for the Deaf
Includes images of buildings, report for the corporation by Franklin Carter, receipts and expenditures, principal's report by Caroline A. Yale, courses of study, catalogue of pupils, terms of admission, and the Massachusetts Law in regard to Education of Deaf Mutes. Four students graduated this year from the Clarke School. Students whose tuition is paid by the state of Massachusetts must remain for ten years, they cannot be removed without consent of the school and the state. This prevents parents who do not understand how slow the process of acquiring speech can be for deaf children from removing their children from school. Oral instruction for the deaf loses one of its strongest advocates with the death of Gardiner Greene Hubbard. Includes obituaries for Hubbard by John Hopkins University President and Mabel Hubbard Bell.
