McLemore, Leslie Burl (interviewee)
Interview with former UMass Amherst graduate student, Leslie Burl McLemore, about his experiences on campus 1966-1970 as a doctoral student in the Government (now Political Science) department, and his life as a professor and activist. McLemore grew up in Mississippi and was active in the civil rights movement as an undergraduate at Rust College, and during his years earning a master's degree and teaching in Atlanta. At UMass he was a member of the black student organization, George Washington Carver Society, and helped with the push to develop the W. E. B. Du Bois Department of Afro-American Studies. Interview conducted, and video recorded, with an online messaging application, causing video and sound quality to vary throughout the interview.
