Clarke School for the Deaf
Includes reports of the chairman, president, guidance program, teacher education department, research department, and development program. Clarke School aims to prepare students to attend an hearing school after graduation. One hundred and seventy-nine children attended the Clarke School this year and thirteen graduated. Twenty people completed the teacher education program. Ninety teachers attended the Summer Institute. Dr. and Mrs. George T. Pratt traveled to Europe to visit programs for the education of deaf children. They were impressed by the amount of modern equipment and facilities. Philip A. Bellefleur, research audiologist, will travel to Europe to learn about the electronic tools they are using. The school incurred a deficit of 68,000 dollars during the past fiscal year. The trustees have voted to increase the annual tuition charge. The research department gives an update on the study of hearing loss and deafness, and the thyroid tracer study.
