Ashcraft, Barr G., 1940-2005
Boi Van Trinh, seen from the shoulders up, balances a plate of food on his head, holding it with one hand, some thirty miles north of Saigon. Photograph is mounted, with label providing a brief biography: "Boi Van Trinh, a lad of good cheer and strong will, offers ricecake wrapped in banana leaves to the photographer as an appetizer for dinner. A street urchin whose family had been killed Boi was adopted by a couple of us newsmen. Many times accompanying us on patrols, Boi learned how to phtogrpah well enough to sell a photo to AP, he learned how to drive a Jeep and how to shoot a M-16. He next wanted to fly a helicopter. But he was killed four days before his fourteenth birthday the day he was to begin his flying experience."
